Helen moved to Johannesburg at the age of 19 to pursue hair with only R300 in her pocket. Lorraine Schwartz helped Helen when she first moved to Joburg.  In 2000, she began working as a receptionist at Estilo Salon in the West Rand. Later Helen worked at the Paul James and Andy LeCompte salons in Sandton. In 2006, Helen was a member of the hair team for The Miss SA pageant.  She also worked as a personal hairstylist for Minkie van der Westhuizen.  While working for Minkie, Helen traveled to Paris to work at fashion shows and made connections by talking herself into VIP lounges.

On several occasions, Helen has collaborated with hairstylist and wigmaker Tokyo Stylez .
