EQASA Course

Start date. February 2024 - Duration of course: 10 months. - Exams are to be held by EQASA, at a venue of their choosing, and at the students own cost. - The normal requirement for students to do the exam is for the student to have a matric certificate, however special permission can be applied for in the case if younger students.

Module 1: Groom

Blankets and boots - Grooming 1 - Yard management 1 - Physiology and behavior 1 - Tack 1

Module 2: Head Groom

Physiology and behavior 2 - Grooming and turnout 2 - Travel and trucking - Lungeing 1 - Yard management - Tack 2

Module 3: Stable Yard manager

First aid (please do privately - course can be arranged at extra cost) - Stable yard business management. - Conformation and related lameness Equine health care (vaccinations etc) - Dentistry. - Equine foot care (farriery and related lameness) - Functional systems (respiratory and heart and related problems) - Nutrition - Lungeing. With a gadget and at canter. - Unsoundness - Written general knowledge

Module 4: Assistant Riding Instructor

This module covers the basic riding and teaching section of eqasa. - Basic riding. - Correct mounting and dismounting. - Displaying a change of seat position for flatwork and jumping. - Flatwork is the correct aids, leg yields. As well as, walk, trot and canter on both leads. - Jumping is demonstrating shorter stirrups, jump seat position and the ability to trot and canter over an 80 cm course, showing lead changes - Students will both ride and watch demonstrations of the above. - Private lesson. - The student gives a dressage lesson, according to the scenario they are given. - They need to demonstrate a basic knowledge of dressage rules, as well as give a basic lesson in walk, trot and canter. Both rider and horse needs to show an improvement. - Students will be used as teaching subjects, and those that would like too, will be required to teach. - Group lesson. - This is a basic jumping lesson. Riders need to jump at least 60 cm. - Student needs to demonstrate a basic knowledge of show jumping rules. - Students will be taught how to build basic exercises as well as grid work. They will be required to both ride and teach for those who would like too. - Lunge lesson. - This lesson is designed to improve the riders seat. - The student needs to be able to control the horse on the lunge, show the correct use of the equipment given, and demonstrate techniques to improve the riders seat. - In this module, the students will be given lessons in these subjects, as well as they need to teach and ride.
